Because I will likely forget to stop by again this week, good luck at MR this upcoming weekend guys!
I know teams are wondering if you guys are going to combine your awesome starts with some nice finishing tactics, because if you do you are coming home with podium prizes!
well, what an amazing event that was. What better way to end it all off then having multiple players from opposing teams be taken to the drunk tank after the players party.....but thats a different story for a different time lol.
anyways, we arrived in fernie on friday night and had a good time partying it up. AFter heading off to sleep we were awoken at about 4am by a very hard rain. We woke up again at 8am by even more rain and the sounds of the rookie games just beginning. By the time we got out to the field and started to get ready it was pretty dry and sunny out. Unfortunately that didn't last and as soon as the rookie prelims on saturday ended it started raining harder than it had all day....and it didn't let up. So after postponing the start of our games for about an hour they decided to get under way. By this time the fields were extremely muddy and full of water in certain areas. Our first game was against XPC and after a hard fought fight we ended up staling them with a 2 on 2. Our next game was against Phoenix. It started in our favor with us smashing them hard and fast and then losing pace and ended up losing our edge and the game with them 2 alive.. Game 3 was against DV8 and we finally got our first victory with me and Jamie closing out the game. Next was 420 which smashed us for the first time all year. At this point we were 1-2-1. It was all up from there though, as the victories started to roll in with a 6 strong smashing of Hybrid and Jamie, and I winning a 5 on 2 versus Virus. The first day ended with us having a record of 4-3-1. Our second day had us play Impact and DV8 for our last 2 games. Our game against Impact was extremely hard fought with Jeremy pulling out a 2 on 1 as Impact tried to finish the game in the last seconds. Jeremy got the pull, just not the hang. If we won our last game Phoenix would be in semis, if we lost, Phoenix would be out of semis. We ended up winning and knocking DV8 out of semis. We ended up with a record of 6-3-1 which was good enough for 4th overall.
In semis our division was XPC and Phoenix. XPC and Phoenix played each other first and ended up stalemating each other which was perfect for us meaning we just had to win one game to make finals. Unfortunately this never happened and we ended up losing both games coming in a respectable 6th.
Overall, it was an amazing experience and was definitely the best event of the season. Darren was awarded the Gitch for his amazing play in the monster. I've never seen someone take so much punishment with a smile on his face and willingness to do it game after game providing our team with a person willing to runthrough and bunker run game after game at a moments notice even when the "go" call wasn't for him lol. We are looking forward to event 4 and looking to make finals this time. Anyways, i'm tired and thats about it.
Matty.
